Summer 2022, these are birds that are found only in the Hawaiian Islands. The top row has two images of the Akiapola’au, with its remarkable beak, the lower part is used like a woodpecker, and the upper curved part for retrieving beetle larvae. The top right bird is the I’iwi, the second row from left to right are an Apapani, Hawai’i Creeper, and Amakihi, the bottom row are Nene and on the right the Palila. All except the Nene have evolved from a common ancestor over the last 8 million years since the emergence of the first of the islands, Kauai.
